What Optimists Do
Optimist Clubs worldwide and their members, have been volunteering their time and energy to help youth in their community since 1919, and by doing so are “Bringing Out the Best In Kids”. The purpose of the North Okanagan Optimist Club is to develop “Optimism” as a philosophy of life and to aid and encourage the youth of our community. Our members are committed to building a better future for the youth we influence through guidance, support and by setting a good example. This in turn empowers young people to be the best that they can be.
We have spent over $______on the aid and development of North Okanagan’s youth since 2011! This includes our “Playground Boxes” full of toys placed in 2 different parks within Vernon, B.C.
We encourage you to browse through our website , learn what we do and maybe come out and help an event or even join our club.
Each Optimist Club looks for several service projects within their community’s geographical area that helps the local youth in some positive way. Members choose to abide by “The Optimist Creed”, which simply means keeping a positive healthy attitude towards other people. This practice automatically empowers the younger people, helping them be the best they can, which in turn makes the world a better place to live.
Each Optimist Club is run by members and elected officers who volunteer their time, expertise and energy, to find ways to raise funds for their club. At their weekly or monthly meetings, the clubs members and “Board of Directors” (which include the president, secretary treasurer, vice-presidents, past president, and elected directors) are voted in for the term of their office. It is at these meeting that projects are discussed and voted on and committees are established to support each event or project.
