The Vernon and District Heritage Fair, scheduled for April 7th at the Schubert Centre, is pleased to announce that seven Vernon schools are participating in the event this year. Over 500 students will enter projects in School fairs. Projects chosen from these fairs will enter the District fair.
Students are encouraged to explore and celebrate Canadian history through many different mediums and this year’s fair will be special as we recognize Canada’s 150th birthday and Vernon’s 125th. The students chosen to participate in the Fair will spend an exciting day of judging, fun, food and entertainment.
Each student will receive a commemorative t-shirt and recognition for their participation in the Fair. Awards will be presented for outstanding projects. Last year 29 Vernon students were invited to the regional fair in Kelowna and from there, 2 worthy projects moved on to the provincial fair in Vancouver.
The Heritage Fair will be holding an open house on the evening of April 7th from 6PM to 7PM for the community to have an opportunity to view the projects and attend the awards ceremony.
The Heritage Fair Committee is looking for volunteers to assist us in the presentation of the fair, helping with registration, chaperones, assisting with crafts and in other ways. If you can be of assistance the day of the fair or for a few hours leading up to the fair it would be greatly appreciated. Please call Jane Advent at 250-542-9295 or Lesley Hayes at 250-275-2676.
