Vernon Hosted The 5th Biannual Cities Fit For Children Provincial Summit!
Cities Fit For Children Trade Show/Community Show Case was held at the Best Western Vernon Lodge in Vernon, B.C. on Nov. 12 & 13th, 2015. The North Okanagan Optimist Club was proud to sponsor 10 local prospective students leaders who all attended the two day event, with our donation of $2,000.00 which was gratefully acknowledged and appreciated by the organizers the “Coalition of Early Childhood Educators“. The focus of the event was to showcase our Vernon community, provide networking opportunities and connect the many people “In Our Own Backyard” who support children.
One of the most impressive and exciting parts of this Trade Show was the dine-around showcase presentation of close to 30 local youth photographed art pieces based on the subject of “Children’s Rights“, which also included children’s music.
Lynne Reside, one of the organizers said “It brings together municipal officials, municipal and regional district staff, parks and recreation, aboriginal officials and staff, health care providers, educators, child and youth practitioners, business, faith groups and anyone interested in creating communities where families and children can thrive”.
The event included highly acclaimed “Keynote speakers” Paul Born, an internationally acclaimed supporter of community development initiatives, Dr. Suzanne Crowhurst Lennard, an advocate for liveable cities, and Dr. Paul Kershaw, a lead proponent of GenSqueeze, a national group seeking equity for all generations.
