The North Okanagan Optimist Club held an"Optimist Club Level Essay Contest" for each year we have been Chartered (5 years). Our Optimist Essay Contest was advertised in all the secondary high schools from Vernon to Salmon Arm, encouraging students to participate and write an essay.
This years (2015-2016) topic was "Optimism Should Be A Priority".
The top 3 entries were:
-#1. Alexa Tymkiw who was awarded $500.00
-#2. Celine Edwards who was awarded $300.00
-#3. Emily McDougall who was awarded $200.00

For the fourth consecutive year, we held an Optimist International Essay contest for the high school students in our local area. The topic this year was “Lead By Example: Reality or Fiction?” and the essay participants wrote very interesting personal opinions on the topic.
Our club contest winners were:
1st place – $500-Tayana Simpson
2nd place -$300- Alannah McPherson
3rd place -$200- Brookelyn Koersen.
Our 1st place winner, Tayana’s essay was entered into the "Pacific Northwest District" contest where her excellent essay was surely a strong contender.
