Think of an item that you would have liked to give your mom or dad for Christmas when you were a child. Now just imagine you had to opportunity to purchase these items without breaking your piggy bank.
That’s the concept behind the annual Children’s Christmas Workshop, which is set for Sat., Dec. 9 at The People Place, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Children who don’t have a lot of money to spend can still enjoy the feeling of giving,” organizer Sandra Bradley said in a release on Friday. Christmas is a time to give, and we want to be sure everyone has that opportunity.”
Children who visit the store, which is in its 12th year, are greeted and escorted through holiday-themed pop-up shop by Kalamalka High School Leadership students, who help the pick out gifts to purchase for their loved ones while mom and dad wait in the kitchen enjoying a cup of coffee and cookies. The gifts are wrapped and tagged before leaving the store. Gifts range in price from 5 cents to a basket of gifts for $1. This year money raised will go to the Children of the People Place.
Bradley said she and the event sponsors and volunteers are currently seeking donations of tools, ornaments, wallets, small sports items, games, jewellery, candles, spa items, designer scarves, gloves, kitchen gadgets, giftware, cards and games, for resale at the shop.
“This is a great chance to re-gift,” Bradley added. “We also need wrapping paper, tissue and ribbons.”
Items left over will be given to other organizations at the end of the day.
Items for donation can be dropped off at the following locations:
We Care Home Health Services
Ladies World Health & Fitness
